So I graduated from Penn State yesterday. That was pretty cool. It was great to have my family with me to celebrate and it's always funny to see yourself in the cap & gown outfit. I don't have much reflection regarding completing my undergraduate degree. Im reflecting less on what I've just accomplished and more on what I'm about to attack. This transition is a big one, and with college behind me I'm coming to terms with what I'm about to endure this summer. The Plan: May 8 - 23, Expedition based trip leader training for North Carolina Outward Bound School End of May - October, Lead trips with NCOB November, Road trip out west Winter '19-'20, ski and work out west, most likely in Big Sky, Montana. This is subject to change, I could decide in August that I'd rather be a wakeboard bum. The Trips:
The Train of Thought (choo choo): Leading trips for Outward Bound is going to be a great challenge for me. It will be a dramatic increase in days spent in the field (80ish compared to 44 last summer). My success depends hugely on staying healthy, so to this end it is a goal of mine to be disciplined with stretching. Field work will be taxing on the body but I am so excited to gain a fat season's worth of experience. I want to end up at grad school for experiential education, so right now working for Outward Bound is exactly where I want to be. By keeping up with a personal journal, reading academic literature, and actively leading trips at the same time I expect to make this a massive summer of growth. Intellectual growth as a main take away, but also technical growth. I am super motivated to become a more competent and well rounded outdoorswoman. The next few years are going to bring me a lifetime of living, and it all starts TOMORROW when I leave State College and head for Asheville, NC. I will make blog posts when I am out of the woods, sharing details and stories about my trips and other summer adventures. Follow along, Instagram: @adwitz |
