Final Reflection from Outdoor Recreation Consortium in the Great Smoky Mountains
March 2019
The Outdoor Recreation Consortium was a class that met once a week then went on a week long trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in late March. We engaged in lessons on park management, resource management, environmental interpretation, and much more. This trip was the best week of my semester. Our final paper for the class asked us to connect the trip with our other coursework. For me, this final paper ended up being a reflection on my life and career in addition to just my college classes. This reflection can be seen by clicking the button below.

Research, Policy, and Practice Supplement for the Journal of Experiential Education
December 2018
RPTM 440 was about Outdoor Experiential Learning, including the history of the field and literature on the subject. For our final assessment we had the opportunity to write a summary of a published article for the Journal of Experiential Education's Research, Policy, and Practice series. The idea behind this series is to summarize the (research, policy, and practice) implications of published articles so that someone could pick it up off a coffee table and read it easily and quickly. I summarized Empowerment and Experiential Education A State of Knowledge Paper by Amy Shellman (2014). My article summary can be seen by clicking the button below.

Recreation Resource Planning & Management Final Literature Review
November 2017
RPTM 320 was a course that covered many topics, including but not limited to the National Park System, satisfaction, carrying capacity, recreation conflict, and soundscapes. For our final essay we had to write a Literature Review on any topic of our choosing within the field of recreation. I chose to write about the effects of high trail use specifically looking at the Appalachian Trail "Bubble" of thru-hikers each year. A copy of this essay can be seen by clicking on the button below.
